Rebecca + Sean

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Rebecca and Sean are two avid wildlife photographers who frequent Yellowstone National Park for its abundant fauna and diverse ecosystem. They had their hearts set on getting married inside Yellowstone and contacted me to see if I would be up for joining them and being their wedding photographer. After confirming I was available on their wedding date, I, of course, said yes! I packed my bags and headed to Wyoming for a September elopement in Yellowstone National Park. Here's what happened next.

We met at Barronette Peak, a 10,354-foot mountain along the northeast entrance road in Yellowstone. Home to mountain goats and big horn sheep, it's no wonder this is the spot Rebecca and Sean chose for their wedding ceremony. Daily high temperatures in this part of Yellowstone during September usually reach about 75°, but it was a brisk 45° on the morning we met on September 5th. The ceremony began, and about halfway through, the sun's warm rays extended past the face of Baronette Peak and shined down onto us in the meadow.

September is an extraordinary time in Yellowstone National Park. During this time of year, wildlife viewing is in its prime. The lovely colors of Autumn also begin to show up early in the month. As the season progresses, the number of people visiting the park starts to drop off, making September and October a good time of year for an elopement in Yellowstone National Park.

After the ceremony, Rebecca, Sean, and I headed to Soda Butte Creek, just a hop, skip, and a jump away. I took several newlywed pics of the happy couple along the rocky shores of the creek as they enjoyed a romantic moment away from their wedding guests. Soda Butte Creek is where Rebecca and Sean got engaged, so I'm glad we got to go there. Without a strict wedding timeline to adhere to, Rebecca and Sean got to flow through the moments of their wedding day.

Next, we drove deeper into the Lamar valley, where Rebecca and Sean took a moment to photograph a herd of bison in the grassy meadow. We then traveled to Gardiner, Montana, where the wedding reception would take place. Rebecca and Sean's wedding guests would join them for post-wedding celebrations at their favorite eatery, the Wonderland Café. It was a leisurely day with happy moments and many beautiful Yellowstone National Park views.
