Grand Teton National Park Commitment Ceremony

Grand Teton National Park Commitment Ceremony

ELIZABETH + JOHN │JACKSON, WYOMING │ 06.28.2020

During the summer of 2020, I traveled to Grand Teton National Park to photograph a commitment ceremony for Elizabeth and John. We met on a cool summer morning in June. The time was 5:45 AM, and the location was Jenny Lake. Elizabeth and John had a lovely ceremony on the verdant shores of the lake surrounded by the magnificent Teton mountain range in the distance.

You may be wondering why a commitment ceremony? Like so many, Elizabeth and John had to postpone their wedding due to the COVID pandemic of 2020. But COVID did not stop them from traveling to Wyoming and committing to spending the rest of their lives together. Their commitment ceremony included many traditional wedding components, including formal wedding attire, a bridal bouquet, an exchange of vows and rings, a wedding cake, and myself, their photographer.

After the ceremony, I took them to Schwabacher’s Landing for a few romantic couples photos. Roughly 13 miles from Jenny Lake, Schwabacher’s Landing was just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Schwabacher’s Landing sits on the Snake River and is famous for its scenic beauty. It was the perfect place to take epic keepsake photos of Elizabeth and John on this special day.

Next, we ventured to the Wedding Tree. Coincidentally, it too is roughly 13 miles from Schwabacher’s Landing. At the Wedding Tree, Elizabeth and John enjoyed a picnic breakfast complete with champagne and a wedding cake. Appropriately named, the Wedding Tree is a popular spot for people to get married. It has a splendid high vantage point of the Teton mountain range and made a beautiful backdrop for their romantic picnic.

From there, we journeyed to the Mountain View Overlook, where a drizzle of rain began to fall. Having checked the weather forecast earlier, we anticipated the possibility of rain and had our umbrellas at the ready. The rain did not stop Elizabeth and John from smiling and having the time of their lives. Having never photographed a commitment ceremony before, I was also having a blast despite the rain. 😊
