Spring Elopement in Moab, Utah

Though each of the weddings I photograph holds a special place in my heart, this one, in particular, is significant for several reasons. First, the wedding took place in Moab. Period. Second, I not only got to photograph the festivities, but I also helped plan them. And third, this beautiful couple, who had never been to Moab before, trusted my advice that the stunning red rock landscapes would be a prime location for an adventure elopement that would not disappoint.

Lacey and Cody traveled from Kentucky with a handful of family members in tow. We met at their accommodations, Under Canvas Moab, which offers luxurious tent lodging smack dab in the middle of some of the world's most spectacular scenery. Located between Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, exploring the striking landscapes of both is easy.

Lacey's wedding dress was ah-mazing! It was designed specifically for the boho-chic and the perfect choice for an outdoor elopement in the desert. The all-over lace and fringe details demanded attention and flattered Lacey's curves. The leaf and vine motif of her dress fell into a ground-sweeping train which complimented the dramatic scenery of the towering cliffs surrounding her. Cody also wore attire appropriate for the arid climate in Moab, and the two looked great standing next to each other.

A warm desert breeze blew over us as we stood among the impressive rock formations and tenacious desert plants. Time seemed to stand still, and the vibe was tranquil as Lacey and Cody became husband and wife. The vast area of the landscape provided solitude from any other passers-by. This region of Utah is so undisturbed by human life it doesn't even feel like planet Earth.

After the ceremony and family formals, we ventured deeper into this rocky wonderland. While Lacey and Cody went on an awe-inspiring escapade, I captured a vast collection of stunning images. As the sun began to disappear behind giant balanced rocks, we headed back to Under Canvas for the wedding celebration. This happy crew enjoyed a delicious meal at sunset, and the party continued under Moab's bewildering night sky.
